The James Webb Space Telescope will revolutionize exoplanet science in ways that we cannot begin to imagine. It will open up new doors of scientific inquiry as we study whole new worlds, from hot Jupiters to temperate Earths. Webb will also present new challenges as the exoplanet characterization community grapples with unprecedentedly high-precision, broad-wavelength spectra. With this in mind, I have developed a multi-pronged research program that is leading the charge towards JWST and beyond. I will discuss a few of these projects and highlight some recent results that have given us a better understanding of the nature and diversity of extrasolar planets. I will conclude with a long-term view of where the field is going and how the Institute can play a leading role in getting us there.
