The upcoming James Webb Space Telescope — scheduled to be launched in October of 2018 — is an exciting new frontier for astronomical observations that is full of new possibilities. The field of time series observations (TSO) in particular is expected to have a wealth of instrumental options, with a range of spectral coverage and resolution. The primary usage of these modes will be transiting exoplanet and brown dwarf variability studies. With overlapping spectral coverage from all three NIR instruments and a MIR spectrometer, JWST is the first facility to provide the TSO community with a diversity of spectroscopic options to work with in the Near and Mid IR. Exploration of a new regime in achievable observational precision will allow for unprecedented exploration of substellar atmospheres beyond our solar system. Here we will discuss the functionality and limitations of using the JWST for TSO research. In particular, we will discuss each instruments application to study exoplanet and brown dwarf atmospheres. We will also discuss the saturation limits, cadences, and many considerations that all TSO scientists must consider when designing research programs for the JWST.
